The Contrada Santo Spirito is the “Cru” of the Palmento Costanzo winery. This wine comes from a small parcel of land (parcel 466) with black, brownish volcanic sand, volcanic rocks and fertile soil, rich in alkaline and ferrous elements 

90% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Nerello Cappuccio grapes from up to 100-year-old vines located in Contrada Santo Spirito, Passopisciaro on the northern slopes of Mt Etna, Sicily at 780 m above sea level.

Ageing in oval-shaped French barrels (Ovum) for 24 months followed by 12 months in the bottle before release.

Bright ruby red colour. Intense nose with elegant notes of berry and flintstone. Rich warm, with well-balanced tannins and a juicy salty finish.

This is an extremely versatile wine that can even be paired with fatty fish such as tuna, mackerel, sardines and anchovies, poultry, lamb and pork.

  • About The Producer

The Palmento Costanzo estate is located in the town of Contrada Santo Spirito, Passopisciaro on the northern slopes of Mt Etna.

Founded by husband and wife Mimmo and Valeria Costanzo in 2011, the name “Palmento” derives from the 19th-century 'palmento' grape stone press which they have painstakingly restored.

14 hectares of terraced vineyards with nutrient-rich, brown volcanic sands grow at elevations ranging from 680 to 800 metres and farming is carried out organically. 

Vines vary in age from 5-30 years old for the fresher, younger Mofete range and up to 120 years for the pre-phylloxera vines
