Friuli

Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of the most beautiful and unique wine regions in Italy. Its special geographical position at the crossroads of far northeastern Italy, the Adriatic Sea, Austria and Slovenia has given the region a blend of cultural influences. Its varied soil and terrain allows it to cultivate an astonishing combination of grape varieties.
Today Friuli is known for its myriad of small, high quality family-run vineyards and diverse production of native and international grape varietals. Native white grapes include Friulano, Malvasia Istriana, Verduzzo and Ribolla Gialla whilst more common red grapes are Schioppettino and Refosco. Indeed, many wine experts believe that Friuli produces Italy’s best white wines. They are elegant, structured and pleasantly rounded. Slight mineral notes are especially present in the wines from the Carso and Collio areas.
